Lightning Protection
In the modern information age, where we see ever more complex and sensitive electronic and communication systems being utilised, the issue of lightning protection has moved to the forefront of many institutions considerations. A direct strike on a badly maintained or wholly unprotected site can render inoperable a wide array of electronic, computer and telecommunications equipment. Can your business afford to be without such systems for days at a time?
How We Can Help
A comprehensive and well maintained & managed system is required to fully protect a building. In simple terms copper and/or aluminium tapes are combined with an earthing system to create a "Faraday Cage". This harmlessly reroutes the massive electrical forces created by lightning away from any susceptible internal systems, and more importantly removes the risk of harm coming to anyone inside the building.
Our dedicated team will design, procure and install an LP system to meet your specific needs, with all works being in accordance with BS6651 and upcoming European legislation. Annual electrical resistance tests carried out by our maintenance teams ensure your continued peace of mind.
Many clients are often concerned about the aesthetic impact of lightning protection upon a building, but our experienced engineers can work with you to find a solution that's both effective and doesn't detract from a property's appearance. For example any external conducting tapes can be sheathed in PVC to match the colour of the building. Alternatively in modern buildings with internal, structural steelwork we can use these as an integral part of the conduction system - sometimes completely removing the need for external taping.
"Lightning Never strikes twice"? . . .
Finally, never believe the old adage that lightning never strikes twice. The mere fact that a property has been struck by lightning (or damaged by a nearby
strike) is proof that the property or its internal systems are susceptible. Unless these weaknesses are addressed, the chances of further strikes grow day by day.
